Introduction of signalling control

Signalling controlISO was the first waterfront company with the cooperation of its personnel to introduce full operational control of all worksites by radio. The introduction of this signalling control method whilst not new in itself had never been implemented in New Zealand for various industrial relations reasons. The adoption of this best practice occurred after ISO completed EH&S analysis and presented it to its personnel which identified the person most at risk on a vessel during cargo loading operations was the Deck Signalman or “Hatchman”. The adoption of radio technology was inspired by and in the same manner in which it had been operating in the construction industry. This allowed for significant safety enhancements for its personnel across all stevedoring operations with secure direct signal communications between operators.
