February 2010Marshalling and Warehousing Inventory Management System
This year saw the release of ISO’s new order and inventory management system; IMSv2. Designed to manage the customers orders through to dispatch, IMSv2 provides complete visibility of inventory from pre-arrival, through to order allocations and final stowage as either break-bulk or containerised cargoes.
IMSv2 is designed to provide a high level of visibility to customers. Customers can add and edit their orders through a web browser interface or by EDI. Inwards loads can be accepted either as non allocated inventory or pre-allocated on reception. Allocations to orders can be made on product reception but altered throughout the fulfilment process. Complex load-outs involving multiple containers, for multiple orders for multiple product grades are handled with ease.
“We have built this version of our order and inventory management system to provide extensive visibility to our customers about the status of their product, orders and fulfilment” said Greg. “We believe that this visibility will allow greater transparency in the export supply chain. This will lead to lower buffer stock inventories, increased speed and accuracy of decision making, and more effective warehouse and management processes and therefore lower supply chain costs.”
IMSv2 went live in February 2010.
2009First Stevedoring Company to Gain MAF PIPS Accreditation
When the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries introduced Post Inspection Product Security (PIPS) accreditation to enhance confidence in New Zealand's phyto-sanitary regime for log exports, ISO was the first stevedore in New Zealand to gain approval.
“We got the team together and we made PIPs accreditation our top priority.” Greg Dickson, ISO’s Managing Director remarked. “There were a number of systems to change and people to train. It was a very intense few weeks”.
Three months before the deadline, 7th September 2009, ISO completed its accreditation audit with the new operational procedures in place. The impact was seen immediately; individual logs were identified and rejected at ship side because of incorrect inspection or fumigation status.
“Shipside is the last effective place to catch any mistakes with phyto-sanitary procedures. Our team are trained to only load logs that have been delivered to MAF specifications,” said Greg.
